My “Indulgence Diet”.

(DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a doctor, physician, nutritionis or anything like that. I simply have worked out a way to lose weight that works for me, and that I am willing to share. I give NO guarantees if this doesn’t work for you, and I am not to be held responsible for anything weird that might happen to you or anyone else by doing this.)
These are photos of me. The “Fat One” is taken one year ago. The “Thin One” is taken last week.
I’d like to tell you about my “Indulgence Diet”. It’s a great, efficient and reasonably easy way to lose weight.
I have gone through a personal weight loss journey for one year now, and I have lost 140 lbs (65 kgs) in that year. I have not done a significant amount of exercise – though I do recommend that you exercise – and I am still losing weight fast using my “Indulgence Diet”.

At first, I did normal calorie counting. It worked great for me, and I found some great websites that help me stay accountable to myself all the way through. I would recommend that you check out http://www.fatsecret.com/, this is a stellar site for calorie counting. I could not have succeeded in my mission without it.
After about 9 months I stalled – I simply did not eat enough, and my body started thinking that I was starving. I started reading up on the issue, and found some good solutions.
Especially one I stumbled across seemed to make sense to me, and this is what I’d like to share with you.
There are several approaches to this, and various opinions about whether this works or not. All I can say it that it has worked for me, and is still working!
Without going into too much detail, this is all about counting the calories that you consume, and sticking to the numbers that you are allowed. If you do this, you WILL lose weight. Promise. Cross my heart.
This is what I did and still do:
1. Sign up with http://www.fatsecret.com/ – it’s a great place to calculate your numbers and to count calories. They have the best tools around.
2. Calculate your Recommended Daily Intake (RDI example 2000 calories) on FatSecret.
3. Go to http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.php and calculate your Resting Metabolism Rate. Use the FIRST result, where is says "The results of your calculations are:" and then BRM and RMR. You need the RMR. (RMR example 2100).
4. Multiply your RDI with 7 (let's call it 7RDI example 14000).
5. Multiply your RMR with 2 (we'll call that 2RMR example 4200).
6. Calculate 7RDI minus 2RMR and divide by 6 (call it NEWRDI example calculates 14000-4200/6=1633).
7. Your new, daily calorie intake 6 days per week is NEWRDI - so in this case it is 1633 calories. Yes, it is less that your original RDI, but it works wonders.
8. Your 7th day - Your "Indulgence Day" (I choose Saturday, as this is where most "fun" days like birthdays, parties etc will be) you will consume AT LEAST (but no more than a few calories above) 2RMR (in this case 4200 calores, and I'd say no more than 4250).
9. Remember to recalculate all numbers before each "Indulgence Day" as the numbers change as you lose weight.
Now, I would never recommended that you go below 1200 calories intake per day, no matter what the numbers tell you. If you end up with a number lower than that, you will not be getting enough calories for your body to run efficiently. All you will accomplish is to NOT lose weight due to unhealthy eating and starvation! So if this happens, please stick to AT LEAST 1200 per day! You will have to stick with your “Indulgence Day” allowance (you can not cut anything from this) and just accept that you will lose weight a little bit slower. It’s okay. It’s the long haul that will get you the good results. You didn’t gain the weight overnight, and you won’t lose it overnight. Just accept it as fact.
I hope you find this useful - it helped me getting out of my plateau, and I know from some of the other users/buddies on FatSecret that this “fix” generally is pretty efficient. Good luck.

Sharktopus & Cheetah Whores

Okay. So I saw Sharktopus. :) Yes. A BIG smile!

I’ve been waiting for SyFy to air this movie ever since I saw the trailer a few months ago, and I gotta say I was not disappointed. This was everything I had hoped for!
That is to say, it fully lived up to my expectations of having lousy acting, bad production, horrible effects and everything else you have learned to live from SyFy.
If you are into the campy horror movies and can watch it all go down with a smile, I fully reccomend this. Wife and I laughed our butts of. This was so much fun.
One thing that really is a much higher standard than the rest of the movie is the soundtrack.
The tone is set early on by the Cheetah Whores, who have the title song out on their brand new album. Check ‘em out, they really rock! :)

EDIT: I have now purchased the album myself, and taken it with me to work and listened to it a few times. I gotta say, this is a great little CD. Good, fun, straight forward rock and roll, borrowing styles from pretty much all the shelves. I find hints of punk, 50's rock, classic rock, surf rock, psychedelic, rockabilly and so many other styles in there. Even a hint of The Beatles is to be found in the beginning of "I Lost Myself".

The songs are well constructed, catchy and well performed, and pretty much every single track managed to get my foot stomping away on the beat and brought out a little smile on my face, making this a very pleasurable day at work.

Coming from Rochester, NY and been in the music business since 2006, these gals (and one guy) really sound like they know what they want and what they are doing.

I wish I could compare this CD to something else that I own - to better describe them - but Cheetah Whores are really a different beast, they found their style, stick to it and do it well. They are completely themselves, yet strangely recognizable.

But what am I talking about? I don't need to describe - Just check out the music player below, crank the volume to 11 and put on your best Party Army Boots - I think you will like these folks.

The Big Four - Live from Sofia, Bulgaria blu-ray release pending - 1990’s Clash Of The Titans revisited!

I used to be a fan of them all. Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax. Today, I still follow on the sideline, and I am really excited about the “Big Four” blu-ray release coming up.

I am no huge fan of either band any longer, I have to admit. Especially Metallica have let me down a little too often, with music releases of ridiculously low standard. They seem to have forgotten what metal is all about. Honestly, I lost a lot of respect for them after watching the “Some kind of monster”-movie. I have seen and heard various releases and bootlegs, and with a few exceptions here and there I don’t really find them to be a very good live act any longer. Back in the day they were a “must-see” live act, and we would always go. Metallica is probably the band I have seen the most times live.

Anthrax, I have to admit, has slowly slid out of my musical view, though I still own Among the Living and hear it every now and then. I have heard most of their most recent stuff, and some of it is really good. It just never really stuck. I do dig the song “What Doesn’t Die” from a few years ago. Super track!

Slayer have all my respect in the world, though they are probably the band that I dislike the most. They are a little too hard for my taste – especially getting older – but I deeply admire them for never losing focus and never selling out. I have seen Slayer live several times and they have always delivered – also in their latter years. Boy, could Metallica learn from them!

Megadeth? These days, my absolute favorites of the four bands. They still rock, they are still tight as a metal machine, they still write great albums and they are still a killer live act. What more can you ask for.

I know. It doesn’t really sound like I am very interested in the topic I am writing about.

However, spending an evening in the company of ALL of them, makes me giddy like a thirteen year old on his way to his first metal concert.

These guys were the all on the soundtrack of my youth, or at least a very large part of it. One of my favorite albums to date is still Metallica's Master Of Puppets - there is simply no metal album better.

I gotta say I was excited when they announced the Big 4 shows, and disappointed that I would not be able to attend one. This would have been a great revisit to my youth where we saw (most of) them live several times.

I fondly remember going to KB Hallen in Copenhagen on October 10th, 1990 for Clash Of The Titans, a gig somewhat similar to this, featuring Suicidal Tendencies, Testament, Megadeth and Slayer. I guess that was as close to a "Big 4" that could be done back then with all the rivalry between Megadeth and Metallica, but it was a great, fun time and a concert I will never forget. I am glad that I was completely oblivious to the feuds within the bands at the time. This night was ROCKIN’!

Now, 20 years later, it seems like almost "meant to be" that I get another shot at a Clash Of The Titans kind of gig with the upcoming blu-ray "The Big 4 - Live From Sofia, Bulgaria that is coming out 15th of October - almost 20 years to the date of my fond memory. With unconpressed audio on blu-ray, a five(!) hour concert event with additional 45 minutes of documentary running time, this should be rattling the speakers severely and be the perfect excuse to get the guys together for a couple of cold beers!

It is well worth noticing that Anthrax and Megadeth joins Metallica on stage for "Am I Evil?" during Metallica's set (I wonder what Slayer were doing? I only see Dave Lombardo on the snare – maybe they don’t play sissy commercial junk like Diamond Head?), and also that Anthrax supposedly does a Ronnie James Dio tribute playing a snippet of "Heaven and Hell" during "Indians".

The DVD cover for this release has just been made public, and it features the setlist for the concerts. These are uncut, full concerts from the Sonisphere festival, and it sound like an evening worth spending in its company. Details below.

I am sure this was a night to remember that evening in June, and I know it will be a night to remember watching it on the big screen at home in October.

This will of course also be released as a DVD, though I find the blu-ray much more interesting.

Should you opt for the DVD, you also have the choice of a deluxe box set which also contains 5 CDs with the full show. This boxset is already available for preorder at www.metallica.com – though I find dishing out $100 for this a little steep.

I will be more than happy when my blu-ray is sitting in my player, video projector is on and sound is cranked up!

Of course, once I get my grabby little hands on this, a thorough review will be posted.

Ray Davies’ classics go classical - and still rocks!

A great afternoon in the out-doors was spent in the company of Ray Davies, opening act Katie Melua and a symphony orchestra with a choir. Yours truly was there, bringing his trusted cameras and keen eye for details. Review, photos and music from the show to be found below.

Last Saturday and Sunday, the legendary Ray Davies was doing a couple of spectacular concerts here in Denmark. I was lucky to attend the show Saturday, as the experience was much bigger than at the Sunday’s show for more than one reason.

The setting is Ledreborg Castle in the Danish countryside. A beautiful huge mansion, with an amazing park in the “back yard”. This is where the Danish National Radio Orchestra, DRs radiounderholdningsorkester, has their concerts each summer. They always have a special guest to front this, someone you mostly would not connect with classical music, though they are a philharmonic orchestra – but they are also so much more.

This year’s big event was the collaboration between the orchestra, their choir and none other than Mr.. Ray Davies, the “dad” of Metallica and “the founder” of Bruce Springsteen’s work place (as the thrashers and the Boss have referred to him). And of course the man famous for being the lead singer and founder of the rock and roll pioneers The Kinks.

I have to admit this… I am not a big fan. He is a living legend in my eyes, but I own no albums from neither him or the Kinks. “You really Got Me” was to – growing up in the 70’s and 80’s - a Van Halen song. I really only know the VERY big hits such as “Lazy Sunday Afternoon”, “Lola” and a few others. So please forgive me for not going into the minute details of each moment of the show. I simply would not know where to begin.

The bigger fan is my wife, who has his recent material and loves it. She is especially fond of the album “Other People’s Lives”, from which he, to some disappointment, played no songs. However, so much more happened that fully compensated for this, and turned an event I attended mainly for my wife into something I thoroughly enjoyed. This was indeed a good show.

The setting for the concerts at Ledreborg is a little different from what we normally see. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, tables and picnic baskets – though they did ask that you do not bring your own fence! - and spend the day in the beautiful park and in the company of friends, family and good music. This was a nice change of pace for me. We ourselves brought sandwiches and fold-out chairs and got comfortable on a little hill to the side of the stage. Very nice and cozy.

I myself have never been to a concert like this before. Normally my preferred venues smell like beer and has AC/DC blaring on the PA before the show. Very different from this.

I was very leery about the opening act. A tiny little girl called Katie Melua, famous for soft-spoken pop music and all-together completely not my choice of music. When we bought tickets for this concert, it was with Ray Davies in mind, not at all paying attention to the opening act, as I had never heard of her. My neighbor, who was going with us to the show, lent me a CD he had borrowed from the library. To me, she sounded like an even more boring version of Norah Jones. Yawn fest. Much too introverted and not something I could at all imagine wanting to be seeing live.

I have been told several times that Katie Melua is actually a pretty big name in today’s pop music, having several hits on the radio and so on. However, Danish radio in general is not at all compatible with my musical taste, and I do not waste my time on it. There is not one decent rock channel, so I have long ago come to terms with listening to internet radio for my musical entertainment. I highly recommend 181.FM by the way.

Much surprisingly, Melua was introduces as the best-selling artist of the 2000’s. Really? I vaguely remember seeing something with her by pure chance on TV, but that is just about all.

I have to admit, I was put a little to shame for being too unwelcoming of her..

On stage she has more presence that I would have imagined and her little pop songs, at least the ones with a little back beat, actually worked well. The incorporation of the philharmonic orchestra suited the music well, and made it a happy little experience before the real show. Her voice is crystal clear and a real treat to listen to live. I have to say I enjoyed it. I even realized that I recognized a song or two. The opener, “9 billion bicycles” and the closer “The Closest Thing To Crazy”, which is featured below. I guess I have heard them on the radio somewhere out there.

(Now, I apologize for the dull video of these recordings. They were taken with my photo camera, so I had no way of really doing any details and only digital zoom, which makes the picture look horrible, was available. So I chose to just shoot the stage and leave it at that. What I hoped to capture was the music, and I think it accomplished that better than expected.)

After a short break, the main event was about to take place. Mr, Ray Davies entered the stage with the orchestra and choir. This was a really cool experience. The show opened with the orchestra doing a little Kinks medley, very neatly arranged. Check it out below.

Ray Davies is no stranger to other genres than rock music. Danish National Radio (DR) – who set up this concert – aired a lengthy interview with Ray Davies, where he talks about his musical upbringing, the death of his sister and many other interesting stories from his life. I have sent the webpage, which is originally in Danish, through Google Translate for your convenience.

It was really cool to hear Ray Davies. He is a great story teller, and gave us neat little introductions and anecdotes before playing most of the songs. He was in a great mood and had quite a few little jokes that brought a smile to everyone's faces. This was indeed a happy afternoon.

Ray Davies and the many musicians really managed to get this whole project to lift off ground. They had spent two days in rehearsal to get all the details down, and I have to say I was – and still am – amazed as to how well this worked out.

Davis has an interesting way of singing. Technically, I gotta say he is not very good. He often sings out of key, he has trouble reaching the high notes and overall he can sound fairly sloppy. However, he does it with a lot of soul, and it really brings out the story telling element in his songs. At first, I felt that it took away from the experience, but after a little getting used to it, it was no big deal. I assume he has sung like this his whole career.

Of course I know the classics from him, he is one of those musicians that is liked even by the people who have no idea who he is. He has the songs from our past and plays them with sincerity and passion still. – and dressing the songs up in classical music just made it even more interesting. I did not fully realize how many songs I knew from him until this concert. By far the majority of his songs were classics, and he was not afraid to use them. The new songs were interesting, and showed us that he is still a great story teller and that he still has the ability to write great songs. Great credits must also be given to the orchestra, the conductor and who ever wrote the symphony arrangements. I really enjoyed that they fitted the music well, and we not imposing on the songs, or in any ways taking the focus away from the original music. Classical music and rock’n’roll were strolling along hand-in-hand very nicely. My experience from various CDs are very varied. There are good examples, such as Deep Purples ventures, or Scorpions’ “Moment of Glory” albums, and there are horrible examples, where they fight to be the loudest, such as Metallica’s “S&M” or Kiss Alive IV. This was naturally not the same giant scale, but it worked out great.

We also got some lesser know songs from his back catalogue. These, he referred to as songs that had been forgotten or never were a success, but were still very popular in certain circles (i.e. the band). These I think were mostly pulled out of the bag because they would be interesting for them to arrange with the orchestra. I - not really knowing his catalogue anyways – thought they worked out great, however quite a few people did start to pack up their stuff and getting ready to walk out. This was with maybe 20-25 minutes left of the show. They sure missed a LOT when the “dull moment” was over and they came back full force. Shame on them. By the time Davies and the orchestra got to the end of the show, everyone had gotten out of their lawn chairs and were cheering and singing along to Days and Lola.

A magical afternoon indeed.

Ray Davies really got his audience on his side Saturday afternoon, and it would turn out to be a much better experience than the Sunday show. Sadly, Katie Melua had stomach problems and after several delays they decided to cancel her part of the show. So what was left was only the Ray Davies part, which was performed in pouring rain.

The whole concert experience was filmed for National Danish Television. I hope to be able to catch it one more time. A home made DVD as a memory of this afternoon would be really nice.

How to keep your privacy private on Facebook

Facebook is now launching a new feature, called Facebook Places. I just learned about it today, and I am - to put it mildly - not happy about it.

The whole idea is that you can now "check in" wherever you are, so your friends can keep up with you. This way you can see who is in the same place as you and what they are doing. You can of course also use it to brag about your whereabouts at that ultra cool concert or in-place you want everybody to know you are frequenting.

At first glance not too bad an idea. If you do NOT want to share where you are, just don't check in. Right?

Wrong.

See, the thing is that YOUR FRIENDS also have the ability to check you in. If they see you somewhere - anywhere - and decide to check you in, it will be shared on your facebook wall and in your friends updates for all your friends to see. You are with Facebook Places no longer in control of the information shared about your whereabouts.

Do you really want your boss to know if you decided to go out on your sick day? Do you really want your wife to know when you go purchase a gift for her? Do you really want to opt out of the option of telling that little white lie about where you are right now?

We all know that it is generally a bad idea to announce on Facebook that you will be away from your home for a longer time. This could easily be interpreted as an open invitation for burglars. "Oh, Kingkeld will not be home for the next three days. That should give us plenty of time to go get all his über-neat stuff!".

I can only imagine this becoming a much bigger problem with Facebook Places. Now there is no point in keeping it secret if you are leaving town. Your friends can easily snitch on you anyways, just because they have a gadget in their hands and like playing with it. They will probably not even think of it as being harmful or hurtful.

Of course, it is always considered courteous to not wish people a great vacation or nice trip on Facebook, unless the person has already announced it. This should go without saying.

As if it is not bad enough that Facebook in a sense now is stalking you, they also keep the information. All the check-ins that are done in your name goes in a database to be used for advertising etc. This is also where all the other information about you goes. Who are your friends? Are you going the same places? What places are they? I really don't feel that Facebook needs to make money and specific advertising for me that way.

Usually I am not really needing to lie about my whereabouts. I have no problem letting anyone know what I am doing, or where. I just don't like the thought of "Big Brother" watching me, disguised as my best friends. What a horrible, horrible idea.

How would you like to see status updates such as "(your name) has been checked in at the STD clinic" or "(your name) is taking a massive dump at the local gas station. Guess he couldn't hold it"?

I would rather be without them.

If you are like me, you turn off the Facebook Places features ASAP.

Because, as a light at the end of the tunnel, there is a way turn the Facebook Places feature off. It is very simple, and in my opinion very necessary. We don't really need the whole world looking over our shoulder whenever or whatever we are doing, do we? Instructions to be found below.

Now, the other side of the coin... all the postings that will most likely come. Are we really interested in knowing where everyone is at all times?

Personally, I am sick and tired of being informed how many Sheep brother Bob needs for his farm and how many gold coins cousin Erika just made playing hide-and-go-seek. Facebook Places will be one more feature to annoy and clutter what Facebook is doing best - keeping in touch with your friends and contacts.

I highly recommend "Fluff Busting Purity" (they are no longer allowed to be called "Facebook Purity" as that was apparantly (and likely so) infringing trademarks. However, the site is still the same, and what they do is still awesome.

Fluff Busting Purity simply removes all the clutter from Facebook through a customisable interface that gives you the option to sort all the junk out of your Facebook page. This makes it so much easier and fun to use Facebook. A quick download using very easy instructions as you are good to go. Link Below.

I hope you find some of this information useful. Personally, I can't stand the thought of Facebook Places, and Fluff Busting Purity has made Facebook an enjoyment for me.

Hasta La Vista

When I record my music, I usually post it to Riffcaster, a website connected to the recording software RiffWorks. A great, easy and free way to distribute your music. Riffcaster has a great community of fellow musicians, and everyone is eager to present their stuff.

I love going through the stuff that the users post, listen to all the great songs that probably will never be released, just because we are amateurs with no connections.

Every once in a while, I come across a track that I think is out of the ordinary. This song, Hasta La Vista, from a user who calls himself Phil HomeStudio, is such a track. I heard it on there and felt that it would maybe be something that my blog followers would enjoy. I love the laid back feel of it. Great vocals and great musicianship all over. Thanks to Phil for letting me post this.

Welcome To Mars!

Today, I found something fun. I was digging around on my PC and stumbled upon the Grønth – or Grønt Græsh sessions.

A little back story:

Grønth, former Grønt Græsh was a little Danish hippie rock quartet/trio (depending on era) with heavy roots in the Led Zep camp and inspired also my a lot of Danish 70’s bands. Pure rock, with lyrics in Danish, written by the amazing Bjarke Slot.

Back then, I played bass. Still do, if we ever get to play music together again. Technically, we never split up.

Anyways, we got together for a couple of sessions at Bjarke’s recording studio, Soundvice, to have a little fun, and we ended up recording two amazing songs.

The first one I will introduce to you today. It’s called Velkommen til Mars (Welcome To Mars) and is about arriving on mars and meeting all the martians there.

Hi gang,

It’s Sunday, and we are now 11 days into the horrible time called “Monique’s Vacation”. Affirmative. I am without my wife for two weeks. TWO WHOLE FRICKIN’ WEEKS!

No no no, this is NOT a good thing, guys. In contrast to most guys I really LOVE my wife and I want to spend my time with her. So I miss her.

Considering that it is only I and Dee at home (and of course, Lasercat), the house is surprisingly clean. I wonder if that is because I am getting old?

I hope not. I am not ready to grow up just yet. I am having WAY too much fun.

Today, I was really hoping to work on more music, but I have not gotten a chance. I’ve had visitors, and now I am doing various chores, laundry, dishes, cleaning, and general picking up (NO! I AM NOT OLD!), and the studio keeps calling me. But I must resist. I know there is no such thing as “just 30 minutes” in there. If I go in, I stay for a long time. And a long time will not do. Not today.

I am getting up early tomorrow, going to work early to save up some hours. The plan is to be able to go home early Wednesday, when Monique comes home. I miss her badly, and I want to spend the day with her.

I know she has had a wonderful vacation, visiting friends and family in the US, I can see her smiling and lighting up when we talk on Skype or Oovoo, but I hope she will be just as happy coming back home to us. She has had a rough year’s time, and I hope that is about to end. Luck and Fortune will come to us soon. Better jobs, more money, more time together, more happiness. :)

Love is a strange thing. We don’t really need to be doing a whole lot together. I just need to be with her. All I need for her to do is to be around. …and of course her cooking. I love her food. You know what they say about “the way to a man’s heart”.

Anyways, this is for you, Babe. I love you more than anything, and I can’t wait to see you home with me again. I miss you like crazy. So does Dee and the cat.

Using RiffWorks you are able to do online collaborations, where musicians from all over the world meet up online and collaborate on music productions. What a great idea.

However, recently they have been working on the servers, upgrading systems and all kinds of other things. This affects the users in the way that we can not always access things online.

I wanted to collaborate on a “South Of Heaven” RiffLink (that’s what the collabs are called), but because of the online trouble it would not let me do it.

So I decided to do one myself, all by myself.

Not sure why it ended up as a country track. I came across the “train” drum rythms, and I guess making it country became a challenge. :)

I hope you’ll have as much fun listening to it as I had creating it.

Okay, so here is my first posting. Let me tell you just a little bit about how it came to be.

I have started writing, producing and recording music in a program called RiffWorks. It’s a great, intuitive program that really gets the musician in you going without you having to be too much of a technician at the same time. It promotes music instead of killing it with technical mumbo-jumbo. I like it. A lot.

First time I was going to try it out, my beloved guitar was in the shop. All I had was my bass and my effects board. So I decided to do this little snippet, just to try things out. I like the result so much I decided to keep it. LOVE the bass solo sound. So angry, and so spacy. Enjoy.

Kl. 10 imorges, den 18. oktober 2008, døde min far, 79 år gammel.

Min bror og jeg var hos ham da han trak vejret sidste gang.

Det var ganske fredfyldt.

Far led meget af demens og mange smerter gennem nogle år, og havde desværre ikke nogen bedring at se frem til. Jeg er glad for at han fik fred for sine lidelser.

Jeg ville skanne nogle billeder af ham, og skrive lidt om ham, ogi jagten på de helt rigtige billeder til denne blog fandt jeg den tale, min mor holdt for ham på hans halvtreds års fødselsdag. Jeg tror ikke jeg kunne skrive noget bedre selv, så her er talen i dens fulde længde:

"Kære Leif.

Jeg tror jeg vil læse dit horoskop for dig. Du er født i stenbukkens tegn.

Der står: Du er tænksom, samvittighedsfuld og en venlig natur. Du har anlæg for mekanik og teknik. Gode talegaver. I pengesager har du administrative evner. Du forstår at hævde dig uden at råbe højt.

Vi har altid haft det godt. Vi bliver mere og mere afhængige af hinanden, vi er nærmest blevet en enhed, der siger og tænker de samme ting på samme tid.

Jeg er måske nok ikke den rolige type som du, men jeg trøster mig med at du sikkert har haft godt af et spark fremad en gang imellem.

Jeg har engang læst at bag store mænds succes stod altid kvinder - men kære gæster, nu skal I jo ikke tro at Leif sådan finder sig i alting uden videre, han er bestemt ingen tøffelhelt.

Jeg kommer til at tænke på en gang, måske for 15-20 år siden. Du spildte aske fra en cigaret på vores køkkengulv. Jeg gjorde mere vrøvl end måske nok nødvendigt, - og ih, hvor blev jeg sat på plads een gang for alle, ja resten af mit liv kan og vil jeg stensikkert mindes din irettesættelse af mig.

Ak ja. 1. januar 2009 ville far være fyldt 80 år. Så denne tale blev skrevet for 30 år siden, sikkert i disse dage. Kender jeg min mor ret, blev der skrevet MANGE kladder til denne tale.

Far, du har altid været der for mig. Du har altid været mit idol, og jeg takker dig for at du har lært mig så meget igennem årene. Jeg smiler altid og tænker på dig når jeg giver Moniques drenge - og naturligvis også Danielle - alle de råd som du gav mig gennem årene. Da var jeg ung og når du gav mig alle disse råd, hørte jeg nok ikke så godt efter som jeg skulle. Du var jo "gammel", og jeg vidste jo som ung og med på noderne meget mere om hvad der foregik i verden. Men efterhånden som tiden er gået, har jeg jo opdaget af alle de "dumme" ting du fortalte mig og advarede mig imod - ja, dem havde du jo ret i, og nu går jeg og siger nøjagtig de samme ting til ungerne. Så håber jeg bare at de denne gang hører bedre efter, men det gør de nok ikke. Alle de gode råd og vejledninger kan jeg takke dig for.

Far, jeg takker dig for at "tvinge" mig til at spille et musikinstrument. Det er nok den ting i livet jeg har haft mest glæde af, både som udøvende musiker, men også gennem det at værdsætte musik. Jeg kan ikke på nogen måde forestille mig et liv uden musik, og det kan jeg takke dig for.

Far, jeg takker dig også for at du har lært mig hvad der er rigtigt, og hvad der er forkert, og at du og mor altid har forstået at få mig til at gøre det rigtige, at følge mine følelser og min samvittighed. Idag har jeg verdens dejligste familie netop fordi jeg fulgte mine følelser. Det har jeg at takke dig for.

Grønt Græsh og JuJu

Ja, så kom min skumle fortid igen kravlende, og hvor var det super hyggeligt!

Jeg fik en mail fra Bjarke, fra de gode gamle dage i Gørnt Græsh.

Vi fik hygget, set gården og Bjarkes fantastiske studie, hørt Runes band Juju Fabulous, som VARMT kan anbefales (www.jujufab.dk). Vi fik også hils på Marianne og Karsten. Det glæder mig i den grad at se at de lever livet og arbejder med de ting de brænder for. Jeg var så heldig at Marianne gav mig et eksemplar af hendes første bog (hun har 16 udgivet!!!), tilegnet Monique og jeg. Tusind tak for det, Marianne, det betyder meget.

Hvor var det dejligt at se en så glad familie hygge sig så meget. Jeg er dødmisundelig over hvor rart de ser ud til at have det sammen. Jeg tror vi alle kan lære noget af familien Slot.

Visittet og det at se at de alle arbejder med noget som virkeligt interesserer dem har virkeligt fået mig til at tænke over jobbet. Det får mine dage på NKT til at virke uendeligt kedelige. Det må jeg sgu se at få gjort noget ved.

En ide om en gendannelseskoncert med Grønt Græsh blev også foreslået, og det kunne da være super sjov at lave noget i den stil.

Vores lille ny, Sussi, ankom iaften. Hun er allerede ved at falde til. Efter ca. 15 minutters gemmen sig under sofaen kom hun ud og begyndte at snuse lidt omkring, og i løbet af ingen tid og en kort lur begyndte hun at lege på opfordring fra Danielle. Jeg snuppede et par hurtige billeder af Sussi mens hun legede.

Rock'n'Rollers

It was fun listening to the Rock'n'Rollers last night at King's Pub here in Kalundborg. As part of the town festival, they did a gig Saturday night.

I know most of the guys from the good old days. Peter, the guitarist, was the guitar player in my very first band! Jimmy, the singer, and I did a radio show every friday night for a while, about 10 years ago. Lots of fond memories.

They did a great job with music from the good ole days, Elvis, The Beatles, etc.

This weekend was Kalundborg's annual town festival. It's always nice when something different happens, especially in a small town like ours.

Back when I was a teen Kalundborg had it's own little world class hard rock band, named Hero. They were the big thing here, and I think they were the only local band who has ever had the guts to put up a venue size concert here, filling the reasonably big concert hall here in Kalundborg. Not only that, they did it twice! This is also the only Kalundborg band that I know of that actually managed to get a record deal back in the day when it actually took a real label to release an album. I still have it somewhere, signed and all! :)

After the Fall of Hero, they have been out there playing all the good ole 70's glam rock songs that we all know and like. I have been trying to get to see them for so many years, and last night I finally made it!

It was great to see the guys play again, and really great to have a little talk with guitarist Peter Fernando and a couple of greetings from the rest of the gang.

This is definitely not the last time I'll be seeing them live.

Jeg har lånt en masse gamle fotoalbums fra min gamle far. Planen er at jeg skal have indscannet alle billederne så vi har dem i fremtiden.

Mens jeg tog et hurtigt overblik over alle de MANGE billeder, faldt jeg over et som jeg syntes var lidt mere end vanligt spændende. Et GAMMELT billede af min far med sin bror Bent, anno 1935. Min far var 6 år gammel, og Bent vel et par år yngre.

Backseat Live

Der landede et Cruiseskib i Kalundborg. Stor ståhej. Flag i Kordilgade, forretninger med udvidet åbningstid, og sidst, men ikke mindst koncert på Klostertorvet. Problemet var bare, at der ikke rigtigt var nogen der vidste det. Ingen plakater i gaderne og inden anden annoncering. Jeg så ihvertfald ingen. Min gode ven Morten var med at sætte lyd op til showet, og jeg hørte om det via ham.

Nå, men en del folk mødte da op. Ingen fra Cruiseskibet dog. Det var sejlet en time før hovednavnet Backseat gik på scenen. Oh, well.

Som altid i Kalundborg er publikom nogle sløve bananer. Der skal godtnok meget til for at få dem med på noget som helst. Det måtte Ivan Pedersen også sande (han vidste det vist godt i forvejen), og han gjorde et ihærdigt forsøg. Ivan, hvis du læser dette, så undskylder jeg på Kalundborgs vegne. Her er så kulturelt dødt at folk ganske enkelt ikke aner hvad man skal stille op med en god rock koncert.

På den positive side var der så ingen der gik i vejen når jeg tog billeder, så de blev mægtigt fine.

Backseat spillede godt. Jeg kender ikke så meget til deres musik, men har da altid hygget mig over dem når jeg har hørt dem i radioen eller selv spillet dem i Kalundborg Lokalradio da jeg arbejdede der.

Kiss is Alive!

Finally, finally, finally do I get to post a review of the Long Awaited Kiss Concert in Denmark earlier this month. I know this is just about old news, but I still got a bunch of photos that I would like to post for you all to see.

I took pictures using my cell phone, and I will also be showing you some photos from a guy I met in there, Ian Cairns, who brought a better camera. I really need to be myself a nice and handy little camera for concerts. Most of the close-up were taken by Ian.

Anyways, my expectations were honestly not too high about this show. I love KISS, but it has seemed to be a little amputated these latter years. I like the thought of the reunited KISS with Gene, Paul, Peter and Ace. Seen them in the later years twice. Honestly, it was great for the novelty, but Ace and Peter couldn't live up to it. They just didn't show the talent and energy needed.

In comes replacements Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer. Both great musicians and they do their job just fine. But they are NOT Peter and Ace, and they are using their makeup. I really don't like that either.

I would have loved if KISS had kept the big show, lost the makeup and went back to where they were before the reunion. But that is just wishful thinking.

All this being said, it seems that Eric and Tommy has settled nicely into the KISS family (Eric of course been an off/on member on the drums since 1990) and the new foursome is really a better KISS than they have been for years.

I really liked that they were honoring the KISS ALIVE! album at this show, the entire main set basically being them playing the (almost) entire ALIVE! album. This album has a special meaning to me, as it was the first LP I bought using my own money. I had just gone to the movies and saw Kiss In Attack Of The Phantoms and it blew my 10-year old mind away! Seeing it today I can see all of it's faults, but back then it was awesome. The day after I saw the movie I went to the music store, found ALIVE! and purchased it on the spot. It holds a really dear place in my rock-heart.

So hearing it in it's entirery was really something else.

But enough of my babbling (you probably skipped it, but if you didn't - thank you for reading!).

Mors plejehjem

Min mor har ENDELIG fået tilbudt en plads på et plejehjem her i Kalundborg, næsten om hjørnet fra hvor vi bor. Vi glæder os meget til at få hende lidt tættere på, så vi kan besøge hende oftere.

Vi kiggede forbi for at tage et par billeder, så mor kan få et første indtryk af stedet.

Idag var vi en tur på Bjerge strand, spontant på vej hjem fra Slagelse. Jeg skød et par fotos derude, og her er de bedste resultater. Jeg er vild med det store billede, Monique kigger på den begyndende solnedgang.

Inden vi tog hjem fra Slagelse, var vi liiige inde og vende på den samme indiske restaurant som vi besøgt med Morten og Tina før Røde Mor koncertern. Endnu engang et yderst hyggeligt og velsmagende besøg.

Røde Mor, Slagelse Musikhus, 26. april 2008

Lørdag aften var vi i Slagelse Musikhus til koncert med Røde Mor.

Egentlig havde jeg ikke så rasende høje forventninger, mest pga uvidenhed. Efter at have tilbragt en håndfuld år i USA, og ikke været meget inde i den danske musikscene, tænkte jeg egentlig mest på Røde Mor som noget der engang var, og et hyggeligt nostalgitrip som kunne være sjovt at se igen. Troels Trier har jeg altid fundet underholdende, og videoer som "Smæk" som kan findes på Youtube (se nedenfor) giver jo maksimal underholdning for pengene. Jeg var ikke klar over at de stadig rocker, ej heller at de overhovedet var sammen mere. Jeg faldt over deres opsamlings-CD i TP en dag, og købte den. Efter at have hygget mig gevaldigt med den, kiggede jeg lidt på deres hjemmeside, og minsandten om ikke de netop havde annonceret koncerten i Slagelse!

Inden Røde Mor gik på scenen fik vi et lille besøg af Erik Clausen, som gav ca. 15 minutters yderst politisk standup comedy. Han var ganske underholdende, omend måske ikke min kop te som opvarmning til et rock band. Men han var okay, og vi hyggede os da meget godt med hans historier.

Så blev det så Røde Mors tur til at entre scenen. Jeg må sige at mine relativt lave forventninger blev gjort til skamme. De gamle rebeller rockede så det baskede, og var markant bedre end de er på pladerne. De var hårdere, tungere og nok mere moderne end skiverne som jo alle er over 30 år gamle. Der er sket meget i den tid. Især var jeg imponeret over "Hurra for Atomkraften" som med Peter Ingemanns bas nærmest fik minder frem om Black Sabbath. Det var umanerligt tungt for et band som Røde Mor, og lige noget der fandt indpas i mit metalhjerte. Henrik Strubes guitar passede utroligt godt ind i billedet, god gedigen rock. Jeg har aldrig rigtigt bidt mærke i Strube før, og jeg synes han leverede varen utroligt godt, nok den bedste i bandet lørdag aften. Men derfor skal Lars Trier på især spansk guitar nu også nævnes. Han ved hvad han laver, det er helt sikkert. Han leverede mange smukke soloer, og bidragede til den melankolske stemning i Røde Mors musik.

Lidt malurt var der dog i bægret: Det virkede - især mod enden - som om der var lidt splid i bandet. Troels Trier var ikke helt in sync, og fik desværret "Tag På Landet" til at lyde som en gang rod. Det virkede som om han ikke helt var med i resten af bandet, som var tight og spillede rigtigt godt sammen. Gid vide hvad der var sket inden de skulle på scenen?

Jeg fik taget masser af billeder, og mange rimeligt gode fotos. De er alle taget med min mobiltelefon, så jeg forventede egentlig ikke det store. Men nedenfor kan du se resultaterne, som jeg trods alt er liiidt stolt af:

Elephants Never Forget

In 1986, Mkele Mbembe was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University.

On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Mbembe approached it very carefully.

He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it.

As carefully and as gently as he could, Mbembe worked the wood out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.

The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments.

Mbembe stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away.

Mbembe never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.

Twenty years later, Mbembe was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenaged son.

As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Mbembe and his son Tapu were standing.

The large bull elephant stared at Mbembe, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.

Remembering the encounter in 1986, Mbembe couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant.

Mbembe summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Mbembe' s legs and slammed him against the railing, killing him instantly .

Probably wasn't the same elephant.

Yesterday, we went to see my brother and his family. It has been great spring/summer weather lately and I have had an enourmous craving for BBQing. However, we do not have neither a BBQ or a back yard so what is one to do?

I decided to call my dear brother Torben and invite us to go see him and his family! We all agreed to do snobrød (kind of like Pigs in Blankets) at their open fire place in the back yard.

The weather was great, we got some great food, great company and some great videos and photos to prove it!

I shot the video, edited it on my phone.

Satan Zombies!

I came across this movie the other day. Very interesting, if nothing else then because of the oddity of it. This little gem is called Satan's Baby Doll, Orgasmo Di Satana, or, more charmingly in this German DVD release, which is the only full length uncut version, Dr. Porno and his Satan Zombie!

I love old horror movies and the 70's sleaze (though this is from 1980 or 1982 depending where you look) and exploitation movies. This has to be the perfect mix.

Sadly, it doesn't have either Danish or English subtitles and the DVD is in German and Italian. Oh well. it's still worth watching...

I foung this describtion of the movie on IMDB:

"A wealthy dirtbag with a taste for smack throttles his philandering wife in a fit of rage after discovering her illicit lesbian affair with the sexy, shapely nun employed to care for the man's invalid brother. During her funeral she possesses the body of her sexy teenage daughter and over the course of the film compels the girl to bring about the deaths of everyone in the household that the woman had slept with.
Which was all of them, at one point or another, including a sinister looking butler who was apparently dabbling in the black arts down in his private little satanic shrine in the catacombs near the family crypt and somehow enabled the woman's allegiance to Lucifer.
Or, something like that. Legends abound that this was originally a full-blown hardcore sex film though the only surviving prints amount to a roughly 72 minute (PAL 25fps: all known versions are PAL transfers) celebration of moods and deviancy that is deceptively tame looking. Lesbianism, necrophilia, voyeurism, incest, drug abuse, and cold-blooded murder from beyond the grave prevail as director Bianchi sets a deliberate, meditative pace that wallows in the film's ornate, Gothic trappings, all of it set to a decidedly melancholy and evocative keyboard/vocal musical score by Nico Catanese that gives it all an air of sadness that is distinctively at odds with the rather high sleaze quotient."

Fortunately, the version that I got hold of is the UNCUT 85 minute version, so all the nasty parts are there in their full glory. I love the way the movie looks all scratched up whenever the sex bits are playing. I suppose there was some kind of "fast forwarding" going on in those grindhouse theaters way back.

I just hope that one day I will find a version with a set of subtitles that I will actually understand (either that or take my Italian to a higher level).

There is an american release on DVD of this, but it is cut down from 85 to 73 minutes.

I did some screen captures so you can enjoy this too. It's slow paced but lots of fun in it's sheer tackyness.

I love the grain of those old movies. The color and the tone just sets the mood from the beginning. It makes me want to turn off all the lights, get a nice glass of red wine or a beer, some chips and sit back and enjoy yet another great movie from the 70's.

Why don't they make movies like this any more? Sure, they are junk. Sure, they probably didn't make too much money. But they are a hell of a lot more entertaining than most of the junk produced today.

How I hope to find an uncut US release of this some day.

Growing up in a little town in tiny Denmark, we suffered from an almost total lack of rock music. We had one television station (the 2nd station aired in 1988!) and three radio stations, one for public info, one for classical music and one for popular music. Sadly, hard rock and metal, which was the music I listened to, was not in the "popular" category. We had no rock music radio, no MTV. Nothing. My source for discovering all this wonderful music was mainly my brother, who gave me my first vinyl album, Deep Purple's Made In Japan. What an awesome album that still is today. I have bought it numerous times in different versions over the last 30 years, never getting tired of it.

In a small town like mine, being a teen that didn't listen to the music all the other ones would listen to, made me sometimes feel very out of place. However, it never made me feel lesser than them. I kind of had the "such a shame they don't know any better" view on my class mates that were into the horrible pop music of the 80's. Me, I never found it interesting until I grew up a bit and starting being nostalgic about my younger days. Today I can better stomach it and actually find it fun now and then.

Learning about new rock and metal music happened mostly through friends, we would always get recordings of each other albums, and that way expanding our music libraries. However, I did have one other source. At Kvickly, the local supermarket, they had a little electronics department. Outside their department was a TV that would be playing the new hit videos from the flavor of the day artists. I remember seeing the "Tears are falling" video with Kiss, the "Looks That Kill" video from Motley Crue.

And then there was Keel. This one really hit home, because the video dealt with kids rebelling against the uptight adults that banned rock music. That was exactly how I felt. In the video is this AWESOME kid, rocking out the best he has ever learnt. I think I could TOTALLY identify with this kid. That was how I pictured myself. How did Keel know how a little Danish boy felt about metal? I was amazed.

I found the video to the song on YouTube today. I am today happy to say that I did NOT look like that kid in the video, even though I wanted to so badly. The song has always stuck with me, the title, "The Right To Rock" still goes. When my wife asks me if I can do something for her, I always answer "You got it" and adds.. "The Right To Rock". She looks at me like if I was some kind of retard, and I always try to explain this video to her. She doesn't fully get it, I think. I think you had to be there.

When George A. Romero first announced plans to scale himself back, returning to his low-budget, independent roots after the high-gloss horror of 2005’s controversially studio-controlled LAND OF THE DEAD, true fans of the man rejoiced. When further details were revealed about the picture in question, however—promising first-person, pseudodocumentary camera antics—many of those very same fans promptly recoiled. On paper, the film read like a postmodern BLAIR WITCH PROJECT-esque stunt with Romero’s flesheating ghouls thrown in simply to give the film commercial heft. Some even argued that the whole thing reeked of an aging genre filmmaker vainly attempting to prove that he still had something relevant to say.

How utterly, cosmically wrong those nervy naysayers were.

DIARY OF THE DEAD, which had its world premiere September 8 at the Toronto International Film Festival, is quite simply one of the most daring, hypnotic and absolutely vital horror films of the past decade. It is without a doubt the signature work of a man who, at the seasoned age of 67, has miraculously kept his long fingers squished squarely on the fevered pulse of the collective North American political and cultural psyche. It’s also Romero’s most profoundly personal, eccentric and accomplished work since 1979’s landmark satirical zombie masterpiece DAWN OF THE DEAD, and in many ways feels like a stylistic kissing (biting?) cousin to his even more avant-garde 1977 vampire film MARTIN.

Ostensibly another reboot of the undead mythos the filmmaker established in 1968’s NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, DIARY casts a troupe of new-to-semi-pro young actors as film students who, after witnessing the zombie dawn while on a remote movie shoot, travel cross-country in their rickety Winnebago, hi-def camera in tow, documenting the entire apocalyptic mess while trying to avoid becoming undead hors d’oeuvres. The key visual gimmick is that lead voyeur and self-appointed director Jason (THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE’s Joshua Close) is rarely on screen, as his gawking lens is the one Romero chooses to follow. It’s a bold experiment for the director, introducing such stylistic guerrilla tactics to his standard turf—but he makes it work, thanks to technically innovative storytelling (our heroes are supposedly the ones editing the movie we see, and thus splice in footage of themselves captured on existing security cameras) and liberal—perhaps sometimes too liberal—doses of the writer/director’s trademark social criticism (this time, Romero’s target is our desensitized, “live or Memorex” media-obsessed culture).

There’s also a series of gleefully revolting, prosthetically created (by Gaslight Studios), CGI-goosed, blood-spattered money shots and some surprisingly broad laugh-out-loud humor. Watch out for the deaf-mute Amish farmer who scribbles on slates and gets very creative with a scythe. The performances by Shawn Roberts (who also appeared in LAND OF THE DEAD), Amy Lalonde and Michelle Morgan are effectively organic, and the film possesses a general low-tech eeriness, coupled with an aching sense of loss that sucks you in and keeps you glued to the screen.

Outlandish, expressionistic and absolutely, disorientingly alive, DIARY OF THE DEAD is the movie that Romero’s legion of cultists—this critic included—have been screaming for: a fascinating, almost art-house railing against a mad, mad world. It’s not the work of an old man, but of a cinematic enfant terrible with plenty of welled-up bile ready to spit on his would-be successors. Bon appetit.

Have you heard of Jango? I came across it on StumbleUpon a few months back, and this site has easily taken care of all my music listening needs ever since (well, almost). This program is brilliant compared to all the other clones I have tried the last couple of years.

There really isn't that much new to find, it's one of those music players where you tell it what kind of music you like, then it suggests more, you rate it and voila! you have your own radio station fitted exactly to your taste. The difference here is that where I usually would get a billion suggestions for music that I have never heard of, this one has loads of classics.

Being an aging rock head, this is of course essential.

Here, I can be rocking all day and really enjoy by far the most of the music. And what I don't like, I can tell it never to play again.

So come see me over there, enjoy the music that I like, or make your own radio station. Of course, you will need to sign up (or log in if you are already a member) but trust me, it is worth it...

I came across this song on YouTube and just had to borrow it for my website. I found this to be first of all a great commentary on the state-of-affairs of all the pop chicks that we like to call superstars out there, even though they are nothing but pathetic excuses for real start like we saw them decades ago. Second, this is a brilliantly performed cover version of "Rock Star".

Ahhh... let's just say we spent our New Years with our friend Morten, Mathias and Kathrine. It was a nice evening. We ate and drank.

So today, I feel like I have a hangover. Not so much with the drinking, two beers is all I had, but because I am not used to going to bed at 3 in the morn. I know, I am such a wimp.

Morten has such a cool house. I love it. If I ever wanted a house, it would be this one.

Meeting Megadeth

I used to do radio work here in little Kalundborg, a local station called KLR (Kalundborg Lokalradio), which shut down years and years ago.

Monique went through some of my pictures (she is doing a blog about my wild and crazy youth, I think) and came across this photo that I took of Megadeth back in 1992 at the Roskilde Festival. Man, those were fun times. I was at a big interview session with a few other radio stations and magazines and it was a really cool thing to try, especially since Megadeth is one of my favorite bands. Now I just need to find the autographs that I got from them too. I wonder where they are? Anyway, it was a pleasure to meet them, Dave was clean at the time and got to show us that between the anger you can find a very intelligent man, something that he definitely has shown in his older days. He talked a lot about staying clean on the tour and how hard it was, because when you are a rock star, everything is made available to you. It's just to tell the right people what you want and you will have it within minutes, including drugs etc. I am glad that he had time to find himself, I think it is something that you can really hear in the last couple of albums. The aggressiveness is still there, but the anger is a little different and I think it suits them great.

IMO, the latest Megadeth album has to be one of the best ever...
